The most important in brief:
If you don’t want to read the entire text, I’ve summarized my most important experiences with the Oral-B Smartseries 6000 here.
Basically, you only need to know one thing: The Oral-B Pro 6000 provides healthy teeth & cleans very reliably.
The built-in extras (extra brushing modes, timer, Bluetooth to connect the brush to your smartphone) help keep a beautiful smile and save yourself expensive treatments at the dentist.
Most of the features are useful additions that help with maintaining proper brushing technique.
Although you may not use each of them on a daily basis, it’s still good to know that if in doubt, you can polish away tooth discoloration with the whitening mode, for example.
The former test winner at Stiftung Warentest convinces with a great cleaning performance, many extras such as Bluetooth & a high-quality workmanship. All around recommendable!
All in all, the Oral-B 6000 is thus a toothbrush without real weaknesses – but it convinces in all disciplines & thus belongs to the currently best electric toothbrushes ever.
The variants of the Oral-B 6000
In addition to the normal variant of the Oral-B 6000, there are a few more:
- The Oral-B Pro 6400 * is identical in construction, but comes with a year’s supply of different attachment brushes.
- In addition, the 6000 with 2nd handpiece is also available as Oral-B 6500 Smartseries.
For couples or families, this version is slightly cheaper and very popular here on Amazon*.
Wrong you do as said with none of these variants something – they all convince. If you want to learn more, you are welcome to read my extensive review of the toothbrush:
Unpacking & Equipment
The first impression is convincing and the workmanship of the Oral-B 6000 seems solid and durable.
The handpiece, which has a great finish, also survives the odd fall without any major problems.
- There is also a battery level indicator and Bluetooth activity indicator.
- This is handy because it means you don’t have to guess when the device needs to be charged.
The brush is also Bluetooth-enabled and can be connected to the free Oral-B app available (more on that below).
The equipment at a glance
Also included in the package are:
- a charging station that holds the brush in place without wobbling
- Four clip-on brushes, with which you can try out the different model variants (see also our great comparison test of Oral-B clip-on brushes)
- In addition, there is still a visual display (SmartGuide) in the scope of delivery
The included storage case does not quite reach the quality of the top model Oral-B Genius 9000 – in terms of value, nevertheless, it fulfills its purpose. Who likes to be on the road, the brush including accessories can be stored without difficulty in it.
So the Oral-B 6000 does not afford itself any weaknesses in terms of equipment.
Cleaning performance: thorough tooth cleaning
The nicest accessories are of no use if the toothbrush fails in daily tooth brushing.
Tip: The Oral-B 6000 Smartseries is compatible with all of the manufacturer’s brush heads
Happily, the Oral-B 6000 also impresses here with the many integrated cleaning modes that assist with dental care. Among other things, there are these settings:
- normal tooth cleaning
- deep cleaning
- Gum massage
- Whitening mode for white teeth
- Sensitive mode for sensitive gums
If you are now wondering whether this is not too much of a good thing, then you are certainly not alone here. I was also skeptical at the beginning, whether so many features are really useful.
The cleaning modes
In practice, I did brush most of the time with the normal cleaning and the sensitive mode – but depending on the condition of the teeth, the additional modes also represent real added value.
- So I used the deep cleaning, for example, to clean the interdental spaces from stuck food residues.
- The whitening mode for discolored teeth can be helpful for coffee drinkers, for example, and a massage function helps with inflammation of the gums.
The additional functions you may not need every day – but every now and then they facilitate one yet noticeably brushing.
So personally, I would spend a few € more for such additional functions again at any time (and enjoy a white smile and healthy gums in return).
Yes, it is not absolutely necessary, but in the best case it saves in the long run significantly more expensive treatments at the dentist. Here I would not skimp in the wrong place.
Other experiences from everyday cleaning
In operation, the Oral-B 6000 is quieter than less expensive models like the Oral-B 700.
This is due to the increased number of rotations, which not only help with cleaning, but also make the operating noise seem subjectively more pleasant.
The noise level is not as quiet as with sonic toothbrushes, but never disturbing (or let’s say: you get used to it, there’s no other way with electric devices, the cleaning power has to come from somewhere).
All in all, there is nothing to complain about when using it in everyday cleaning. The Oral-B Pro 6000 offers enough cleaning modes for every kind of need and ensures clean teeth – without having to invest a lot of work.
The pressure control
One of the most important features of any electric toothbrush represents the pressure control
This not only protects the gums from damage, but in the case of the Oral-B 6000, it also helps you learn the correct technique. If you press too hard, a red LED warns you of too much pressure.
The flashing pressure control is a useful protection against incorrect technique.
This is a useful aid for beginners as well as sleepy toothbrushing professionals – which in my opinion is even more important than additional extras like a brushing timer (which is of course also included).
The external display is a useful addition
By means of the SmartGuide (included or separately purchasable depending on the variant), you can also track the applied pressure in real time and thus avoid pressing too hard.
In addition, you can still see the remaining time & other useful info on the display.
- This external display is of course not absolutely necessary, but a little more comfort bring these functions already.
- It is especially helpful early in the morning to see the jaw area to be cleaned or the pressure applied in front of you.
This feature also provides children with additional protection against misapplication.
Bluetooth & other gimmicks
Along the same lines is the freely available Oral-B app, which you can connect to the toothbrush via Bluetooth.
- Then it is not only possible to track the remaining brushing time on his smartphone, but you get at the same time still information about the pressure applied as well as the correct technique.
- If desired, the app reminds twice a day to brush your teeth and records the success in statistics. You can then discuss your brushing habits, for example, at the semi-annual checkups with the dentist.
Whether such a function is really necessary or just a gimmick, everyone must decide for themselves.
Whether a smartphone makes sense when brushing your teeth is something you’ll have to decide for yourself – even without Bluetooth, the Oral-B 6000 is still an absolutely compelling brush.
I found the app quite useful, especially as motivation and control for a child. However, the visual display makes it easier to check one’s own brushing behavior, even for adults.
So my conclusion on Bluetooth and the app is quite positive.
These features are certainly not necessary for everyone, but they represent a nice addition that supports daily brushing. For those who can’t do much with these bells and whistles, there’s also a version without the “SmartSeries” addition.
The battery lasts 1 week
As mentioned, the battery delivers a lot of power and lasts more than a week
- This should satisfy most users, only for longer trips I would have liked to see a longer runtime in this price range.
- Here, therefore, the competition has the nose in front, the Flexcare Platinum holds out, for example, 3 weeks, even he big brother Oral-B Genius manages 2 weeks.
Compared to cheaper models or the quasi-predecessor Oral-B Trizone 6000, the battery performance is still clearly better.
If you use the toothbrush anyway only for daily cleaning in the bathroom, the battery is absolutely sufficient. Since it does not bother if the brush must every 10 days to the plug. Only the long charging time of about 20h is annoying.
Conclusion: great toothbrush for clean teeth
The most important feature of a toothbrush is its cleaning performance. This is exactly where the greatest strength of the tested Oral-B Smartseries 6000 lies, because it completely convinced me when it came to brushing my teeth
The Smart Guide and Bluetooth are not absolutely necessary, but (as a supplement) nevertheless useful.
Together with the other functions such as the visual pressure control, they successfully round off the extensive equipment package.
All in all, the Oral-B 6000 is therefore a toothbrush without real weaknesses – but it convinces in all disciplines & thus belongs to the currently best electric toothbrushes ever.
