About Oral-B Pro 5000

The Braun Oral-B Triumph 5000 is a toothbrush with Bluetooth technology. For that money, you get the brush itself plus three brush heads (two Precision Clean, one InterCare) and a wireless charging stand for each head. You can use the charger with other Oral-B electric toothbrushes: A standard range Pro series model or any older ones featuring Oral-B’s click-on/click-off charging tech rather than slide contacts like this new model has. This is important as good as this is, it’s not cheap.

The brush itself has a built-in pressure sensor that flashes red when you’re brushing too hard and an on/off button with an LED above it in the center of the brush handle. It has five cleaning modes (Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, and Deep Clean) — each indicated by a different color — plus an additional “Tongue Cleaning” pattern for getting rid of bacteria on your tongue every day using another brush head (not included as part of the pack). The bristles rotate at about 37,000 rounds per minute.

At first I wasn’t convinced that bluetooth was necessary in this toothbrush given how much technology is into just one product already but the fact that the app does actually have a timer built in which you can activate (and disable) is pretty cool. You also get notified when you need to change your brush for a new head, although I’m not sure how necessary this feature it. I’m expected my toothbrush to do its job without me being alerted every time after all! This model comes with two Precision Clean heads included so you can get started straight away, but if you want to get the most out of this product and keep up with Oral-B’s schedule of replacing them every 3 months, make sure you get some extras from somewhere like Amazon quickly enough.

Can the former top model from Braun still convince nowadays or should you better reach for the new generation?

A number of years have passed since this toothbrush was first introduced

  • From & to there is the Triumph 5000 but still favorable on sale.
  • In terms of cleaning performance & accessories, the former top model is still recommendable.

However, the toothbrush lacks future-proofing due to its outdated battery.

Successors such as the Oral-B Smart 5000 or Oral-B Smart 6000 clean at least as well, but have modern batteries with more durability.

I would clearly advise you to buy one of these models. If you’re looking for the best toothbrush from Braun right now, also be sure to check out the Oral-B Genius or the latest Genius X 20000.

  • The best toothbrush from Oral-B
  • innovative position detection
  • Excellent brushing performance

By the way, there is also the set Braun Oral-B Triumph 5500 with 2nd handpiece. However, the devices are identical in construction, which is why this test also applies to this variant.

First impression of the Triumph 5000

Everyone who attaches importance to clean teeth has certainly already thought about purchasing an electric toothbrush.

oral-b triumph 5000 test

  • With the Triumph 5000, Braun sends a model of the upper class into the race, which is already evident in the equipment.
  • The workmanship of the waterproof handpiece is valuable – here nothing rattles. In the design of the Triumph 5000 dominate white, blue as well as silver.

This looks okay, but with newer toothbrushes such as the noble Sonicare Diamond Clean, it can not keep up in terms of design.

A disadvantage is also the clunky appearance, because due to the strong battery, the Triumph 5000 is heavier in the hand than many other electric toothbrushes. You do get used to the weight, but the competition is ahead here

The equipment at a glance

The variant I tested also includes the following accessories:

  • 4 attachment brushes (2x Deep Cleaning, 3D White and Sensitive) to try out the different cleaning modes. Here we refer you to our comparison test Oral-B brush heads.
  • A charging station on which you can neatly place the spare brushes.
  • a storage box for travel, which is practical but seems a bit clunky due to its size.
  • An external visual display (SmartGuide), which reflects the time, timer and pressure control.

I’ll go into more detail about the usefulness and functions of the SmartGuide below.

Overall, I consider the equipment package of the Oral-B Triumph 5000 but describe successful. The processing of the accessories is convincing and is appropriate for the price.

The cleaning performance

Fancy equipment is of course no use if the toothbrush does not do its job properly – the main reason for an electric brush are still clean & healthy teeth.

Even todayugate the brown brush plays here one of its great strengths.

oral-b triumph cleaning performance

The toothbrush also comes with other names, differing only in the brush heads. So a Triumph 5000 Trizone or an Oral-B Triumph 5500 is completely identical except for the accessories.

When you turn on the Triumph 5000 after the first charge (takes a good 16-20 hours), the brush head hums along at over 40,000 pulsations per minute.

Such numbers are always good for marketing, but they do not always provide information about the actual cleaning performance. The subsequent practical test, however, was able to convince me completely:

In addition to the normal mode, there are also functions for polishing discolored areas or the ability to massage sensitive gums.

These additional modes are not necessarily necessary for everyone, but nevertheless they represent a useful addition to everyday brushing.

Especially users who struggle with sensitive teeth get real added value here.

A feature for gum protection

For all users without exception, on the other hand, the pressure control is useful.

This protects against the application of too much force when brushing, which could damage the gums.

This is an important feature, especially in view of the chunky handpiece, because if you press too hard with the brush while brushing, it will vibrate briefly and warn you with a red LED.

The Oral-B Triumph 5000 has a pressure control

The Oral-B Triumph 5000 pressure control

The pressure control worked flawlessly in the test. Beginners, children and morning grouches will especially benefit from it

It represents, in my opinion, an essential function for any electric toothbrush – because it helps in learning the correct technique.

The Smartguide – absolutely necessary?

Heavily advertised by Oral-B is the small device that comes with it, which can connect wirelessly to the toothbrush

oral-b triumph 5000 smartguide

It not only shows you the time remaining in brushing, but also the area of the jaw to be cleaned.

  • I have found this noticeably helpful in cleaning my dentures more evenly (so I would recommend it as a useful addition without hesitation).
  • In addition, the device warns against pressing too hard and thus complements the daily cleaning routine useful.

If you are not brushing your teeth at the moment, you can conveniently read the time on the battery-powered SmartGuide.

Overall, the display is certainly not a must-have, but a motivating addition represents the small device for me anyway.

I can well imagine that especially children could have their fun with this accessory. But also all adults it will support in learning the correct toothbrushing technique.

Are there any weak points

In terms of battery power, the Triumph 5000 is in the middle of the pack for rotary electric toothbrushes.

In the test, I was able to achieve runtimes of almost 10 days. So with 2x daily brushing, the brush provides enough juice for most users.

  • However, I am critical of the outdated battery technology. NiMH batteries must be regularly discharged, otherwise they forfeit capacity (memory effect).
  • This ensures over months & years for less and less runtime & affects the durability. The lower the battery level, the lower the power output is also.

This can also have an impact on the brushing time – I personally would reach for an up-to-date brush because of this.

oral-b genius

The current top-of-the-line model: the Oral-B Genius.

The Oral-B Smart 6000 or the Oral-B Genius not only have a longer runtime of 12 days, but also modern lithium-ion batteries.

With these, the memory effect is much weaker (so you can recharge at any time) & the toothbrush brushes as good as always at full power.

(The direct successor Oral-B Pro 5000 has the same disadvantage, by the way. Only the successor Oral-B Smart 5000 relies on modern battery technology.

Summary of the Oral-B Triumph 5000

The cleaning performance is very good, the equipment lush – however, the outdated battery is a real disadvantage.

If you get the Triumph 5000 still cheap in the sale, you can access. Otherwise, you better choose one of the modern alternatives.

These clean (at least) as thoroughly & have in addition still a current equipment without weaknesses.

Comparisons between different types of Oral-B electric toothbrushes

As someone who has been using Oral-B electric toothbrushes for years, I can confidently say that they are a gamechanger in terms of oral hygiene. However, with so many different models available, it can be tough to decide which one is best for your needs. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most popular Oral-B electric toothbrushes and compare their features.

First up is the Oral-B 1000. This model is a great choice for those who are new to electric toothbrushes or don’t want to break the bank. It has a pressure sensor that alerts you if you’re brushing too hard, and a timer to ensure you brush for the recommended two minutes. However, it doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles found on more expensive models, such as multiple brush modes.

If you’re looking for a toothbrush with more customization options, the Oral-B Pro 3000 might be for you. It has three different brush modes (daily clean, sensitive, and whitening) and a variety of brush heads to choose from. It also has a pressure sensor and timer, as well as Bluetooth connectivity so you can track your brushing habits.

Electric toothbrushes in general

Electric toothbrushes have become immensely popular in recent years, and for good reasons. Compared to manual toothbrushes, electric toothbrushes come equipped with various features such as timers and different brush modes, allowing for a more thorough cleaning experience. They are also effortless to use and are perfect for anyone who wants to give their teeth the deep clean they deserve.

One of the standout benefits of electric toothbrushes is their ability to easily clean areas that are difficult to reach with manual toothbrushes, such as the back teeth and corners of the mouth. This is particularly important for individuals with braces, dental implants, or other dental hardware. Electric toothbrushes also make it easier to brush for the recommended two minutes, as many models feature built-in timers that notify you when your two minutes are up.

Another advantage of electric toothbrushes is the variety of brush heads available. These brush heads are designed to suit different needs, such as sensitive teeth, orthodontics, and deep cleaning, opening up a market for personal customization. Many electric toothbrushes also come with different brushing modes, including a massage mode, meant to stimulate the gums, promoting healthy gums and teeth.

In conclusion, electric toothbrushes have come a long way since their inception and are now a popular choice among dental professionals and the general public. With their ease of use, effectiveness and customization options, upgrading from a manual to an electric toothbrush is an easy decision. Maintaining good oral hygiene with the help of modern equipment can go a long way towards preventing cavities, gum disease and ultimately, bettering overall dental health.

Oral health and hygiene

Oral health and hygiene are incredibly important for maintaining good overall health. Your mouth is the gateway to your body, and there are millions of bacteria living inside it. Left unchecked, these bacteria can cause tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath, and even more serious health problems like heart disease and stroke.

One of the most important things you can do for your oral health is to brush your teeth twice a day. Using a toothbrush with soft bristles, brush gently in circular motions for at least two minutes. Be sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth, including the fronts, backs, and chewing surfaces, and don’t forget to brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

In addition to brushing, it’s also important to floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between your teeth. When flossing, make sure to use a clean section of floss for each tooth and curve it around the tooth in a C-shape to clean both sides.

Finally, it’s important to see your dentist for regular checkups and cleanings. Your dentist can detect early signs of tooth decay and gum disease and provide treatment before they become more serious. They can also provide recommendations for improving your oral hygiene routine and make sure you’re using the right products for your needs.

Overall, taking care of your oral health and hygiene is essential for maintaining good overall health. By brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist regularly, you can keep your mouth healthy and avoid more serious health problems down the road.
