I haven’t known anyone to recommend a water flosser INSTEAD of traditional flossing. I do not advocate it as a replacement for flossing, however, it is a great adjunct to flossing. I tell patients, the traditional floss will loosen the plaque from the tooth, the water will flush it out. Together they are great.
I tell all my patients to use both. Brush, floss, waterpik. What they actually employ at home I have no idea. All I can do is recommend. If someone tells me they waterpik only, I’m not going to admonish them. It’s better than nothing.
